Aspiring mothers-please take note! The use of personal care products such as soaps and lotions during pregnancy can lead to adverse effects on reproduction of their newborns, says a new study.
The results revealed a relationship between women who use cosmetics with the highest levels of paraben butyl – commonly used preservative in cosmetics – gestational age shorter at birth, low birth weight and increased odds of preterm birth.
“The antimicrobial compound – triclocarban – added primarily to soaps, is associated with the shortest gestational age at birth Other chemical added to lotions and common creams -. Propylparaben – is associated with decreased body length at birth” said Laura Geer SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York, United States.
