ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army troops remain deployed on the streets of Islamabad on Monday as followers of Mumtaz Qadri continued sitting protest in the heart of the federal capital,
Yesterday, thousands of supporters of former bodyguard Mumtaz Qadri police, who was hanged for killing former Punjab governor Salman Taseer of met in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in the afternoon to offer prayers.
Later they turned to Islamabad, was guarded by hundreds of police and paramilitary soldiers.
Clashes erupted when riot police carrying batons and shields fired tear gas to try to keep pushing closer to the city center.
Some protesters set fire to a container while chanting slogans.
To control the situation, the army deployed troops on the streets and key government buildings in Islamabad to ensure the red zone around Parliament, where protesters gathered.
